I’m Michelle DiGruttolo, a proud resident of Shorewood and a candidate for City Council. As a veteran, a strategic advisor, and a committed advocate for our community, I bring decades of experience in national security, corporate risk, and public policy to my candidacy. I’m passionate about making Shorewood a place that continues to support families, small businesses, and veterans, while preserving our green spaces and fostering sustainable growth. I believe in practical, forward-thinking leadership that puts our residents’ needs first, and I’m excited to work together to build a brighter future for our city.

1. Effective Stewardship of Shorewood City Resources

As your City Council member, I will prioritize the responsible management of Shorewood’s financial, personnel, and natural resources. This means making smart financial decisions, optimizing our city workforce, and ensuring we are good stewards of our water and other environmental resources. I will advocate for transparent budgeting and efficient allocation of funds to projects that deliver real value to residents. By adopting sustainable practices and investing in infrastructure that protects our resources, we can ensure that Shorewood’s assets are managed wisely for future generations.

2. Effective Management of Shorewood’s Green Spaces, Parks, and Trails

Our green spaces, parks, and trails are the heart of Shorewood, providing recreational opportunities, environmental benefits, and a sense of community. I am committed to enhancing and protecting these valuable assets through careful planning and active maintenance. I will work to expand access to our natural spaces, promote conservation efforts, and ensure that our parks and trails are safe, welcoming, and well-maintained. By investing in our green spaces, we can foster a healthier, more connected community.

3. Collaborating on a Resident-Centered Vision for Shorewood’s Future

I believe that the best way to build a bright future for Shorewood is by listening to our residents. My vision is to help the city develop a comprehensive  strategy that aligns our resources—financial, human, and natural—towards achieving the community’s goals. By synchronizing efforts across all city departments and prioritizing resident input, we can create a cohesive, focused plan that reflects what Shorewood residents want and deserve. I am dedicated to fostering an inclusive, transparent decision-making process that ensures all voices are heard as we work together to shape Shorewood’s future.

I am deeply committed to our Shorewood community and actively involved in several local organizations and events. As a member of the Shorewood Park Commission, I work to enhance and preserve our city’s beautiful parks and green spaces. I am also the treasurer of VFW Post 5919 and a proud member of the Excelsior American Legion, supporting our veterans and honoring their service. Additionally, I have run for a seat on the Lakewinds Food Cooperative Board, reflecting my dedication to promoting sustainable and community-focused initiatives. From participating in neighborhood cleanups and park revitalization projects to volunteering at local events, I strive to contribute to the vibrant spirit of Shorewood. My involvement reflects my commitment to fostering a connected and thriving community for all residents.
